The House Manager™ Discovers Other People Doing Things
Broadcasting somewhere in Rubiclone—where independence is permitted, provided management approves the method.
For approximately six months, Sno’ shared a household with an oddly close-in-age male roommate who had developed an unusual occupational condition:
He believed everything happening near him was somehow his department.

Not ownership.
Not employment.
Not expertise.
Just…
jurisdiction.
Scientists remain baffled.
Sno’ had already encountered the House Manager™ during several previous Rubiclone emergencies.
The Window Situation had been contained.
Environmental Controls had resumed normal operations.
Sno’ assumed the organization might finally stabilize.
It did not.
Because eventually…
Sno’ made the catastrophic decision to do something.
🍳 BREAKFAST — An Employee Is Observed Working Independently
11:59 AM.
Morning.
Sno’ will hear no arguments.
She wakes up, wanders toward the kitchen and begins completing a basic household task without requesting supervisory authorization.
For several minutes…
nothing happens.
No footsteps.
No recommendations.
No sudden appearance in a doorway.
Sno’ becomes concerned.
“Is management okay?”
She continues.
Then—
footsteps.
There he is.
The House Manager™.
He surveys the situation.
Sno’ surveys him surveying the situation.
Management appears troubled.
Something is being accomplished…
without management.
This cannot stand.
“You should—”
There it is.
Sno’ relaxes.
For a second she thought something terrible had happened.
🎙️ BREAKFAST MIC DROP
“Management has confirmed the task was going fine until someone noticed.”
🍔 LUNCH — Department of Better Ways
Lunch occurs sometime around 4:47 PM because Rubiclone remains outside conventional timekeeping.
Sno’ is doing another thing.
The specific thing doesn’t matter.
Laundry.
Cleaning.
Moving an object six feet.
Existing near a countertop.
Every activity follows the same regulatory pathway:
Sno’ begins task.
↓
Task proceeds successfully.
↓
House Manager™ detects unsupervised competence.
↓
Alternative methodology issued.
The fascinating part is that management doesn’t necessarily perform the task.
That would compromise objectivity.
Instead, management specializes in explaining how the task could theoretically be performed better.
Sno’ begins to understand the organizational structure.
She isn’t living with a roommate.
She’s subscribed to a mobile advisory service.
Nobody remembers subscribing.
Cancellation instructions remain unavailable.
🎙️ LUNCH MIC DROP
“The advice was complimentary. Unfortunately, so was the labor.”
🍽️ DINNER — Management Becomes Mobile
By dinner, Sno’ notices something extraordinary.
The House Manager™ doesn’t maintain an office.
The office maintains him.
Kitchen.
Hallway.
Living room.
Bar.
Different room.
Bar.
Kitchen again.
Another room.
Management travels wherever productivity has been detected.
Sno’ watches the migration.
“Remarkable.”
There is apparently no minimum distance required before another operational assessment can occur.
Someone adjusts a chair.
Management arrives.
Someone moves a bag.
Management arrives.
Someone begins cleaning.
Management arrives.
Someone stops doing anything whatsoever.
Management remains available.
This is dedication.
Not necessarily to completing anything.
But certainly to being near things being completed.
🎙️ DINNER MIC DROP
“Some managers oversee operations. This one followed them around the house.”
🌙 END OF SHIFT — ANNUAL PERFORMANCE REVIEW
By midnight, Sno’ has learned an important lesson.
There are two kinds of people in this world.
People who see someone completing a task and think:
“Great.”
And people who see someone completing a task and think:
“This feels like an opportunity for my involvement.”
Rubiclone had the second kind.
Sno’ survived by developing a simple workplace strategy:
Smile.
Nod.
Continue doing exactly what she was already doing.
The House Manager™ continued his rounds.
No paycheck was issued.
No organizational chart was located.
And absolutely nobody discovered who appointed him.
🎤 FINAL MIC DROP
“Nobody hired the House Manager™. Apparently that was the first management decision he overruled.”
Mic drop.
Management picks it up.
Explains how Sno’ should have dropped it.
End broadcast.
