LIVE FROM RUBICON, WISCONSIN; where the weather files complaints, the dogs form committees, and one elderly MacBook Air has apparently appointed itself Director of Child Welfare.
At an hour when responsible adults were asleep and Sno’ Witty™ was obviously conducting important government-adjacent research, she opened something called Console on a 2013 MacBook Air.
The computer immediately began saying weird things.
Then it reported:
“2 children.”
No names. No explanation. No tiny backpacks. No emergency contact sheet.
Sno’ froze.
“Two children in danger? Travis and Shane?”
Both men are nearly forty years old, but mentally, Sno understood where the computer was coming from.
🚨 RUBICON OASIS OPENS AN INVESTIGATION
A full household welfare check began immediately.
- Travis: Located. Adult-sized. Probably near a vehicle, tool, snack, or unfinished plan.
- Shane: Located. Adult-sized. May deny requiring supervision despite documentary evidence.
- Lulu: Managing the hallway and refusing public comment without a $30 appearance fee.
- Houdini: Black-and-white, present, and somehow less concerning than the humans.
- Bane: Brindle. Presumed capable of creating a separate emergency at any moment.
Authorities were not contacted because there were no authorities. There was only Sno’, a laptop, and several hundred lines of computer gibberish behaving like a police scanner.
💻 THE MACBOOK FINALLY EXPLAINS ITSELF
After a brief period of preventable panic, the truth emerged.
In computer language, one program can start another smaller program. The first is called a parent process. The smaller programs are called child processes.
So “2 children” meant:
One computer program had opened two smaller computer tasks.
It did not mean two children were missing, endangered, unsupervised, or living secretly inside a MacBook Air from 2013.
It also did not technically mean Travis and Shane.
Technically.
📋 APPLE RECEIVES A FORMAL COMPLAINT
Sno’ Witty™ would now like to ask the technology industry several questions:
- Why does Console read like an emergency dispatch transcript?
- Why are programs reproducing?
- Who approved the phrase “parent process”?
- Why was no one assigned to explain that the children were software?
- Why did the MacBook make Sno conduct a household head count before breakfast?
Apple has not responded, mainly because Sno has not actually contacted Apple.
But spiritually, the complaint has been filed.
📰 PUBLIC-SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT
If your computer says it has “children,” remain calm.
Do not call the police.
Do not wake the household.
Do not begin assigning Travis and Shane case numbers.
Close Console. Pet a dog. Return to whatever questionable research led you there.
The children are computer tasks.
The adults remain under routine observation.
Sno’ Witty™ broadcasts illustrated satire and Rubicon dispatches whenever technology, bureaucracy, weather, meals, or the dogs create enough evidence to publish.
This story is satire. “Parent” and “child” are standard computing terms describing relationships between processes. No actual children were involved in this MacBook incident.
Mic drop.
Two background processes immediately request custody.
